There’s an inherent problem with pomegranates I find.

They require a lot of patience.....

Until recently, I’ve only on a few occasions had pomegranate seeds.  And that’s been either when someone else has been doing the cooking, or when I’ve bought them all nice and shiny in a tub from the supermarket.

Oh, I know....

So last week I added “pomegranate” to my online shopping order on a complete whim.  Since then that bright shiny pomegranate sat on my kitchen top for a good few days.  I saw it innumerable times every day.  It looked almost as if its red skin was giving me that cold hard stare positively daring me to act.

So as I set about my task, I discovered a number of things.....

1.    Don’t wear anything white.....
2.    Be prepared to get pomegranate juice all over the kitchen surface, hands, tea towels, walls & tiles.....
3.    Set aside a good half hour or more...

It also takes huge amounts of concentration and focus to get out every seed and detach all the pith.

Everything else disappeared as I focussed on the task in hand.

I tried a knife, a fork, a tea spoon (both ends) a knitting needle.....and I came to the decision that you have to work with whatever works best for you.

Of course at the end the reward was a bowl full of bright red shining jewels for salads, tagines, tabbouleh, shawarma and every dish that can be adorned with this joyous treasure trove.

It also gave me a good half hour and more of total mindful focus away from everything else in my mind.

So, my suggestion if you need to get your mind away from all things pandemic, is to get yourself a pomegranate.

What has all this got to do with therapy?...Well I’ll leave you to think on that and work it out for yourself as you work away at all those little red jewel seeds....

Are you on for the pomegranate challenge?.....
